Personal Statement :
Do you find yourself worrying too much, feeling panicky, or unable to calm down? Are you feeling too sad or irritable? Do you wonder why you find yourself in the same unsatisfying situations and relationships? When life feels too difficult and problems appear overwhelming, these times are invitations to look deeper at the currents of your life, strengthen your inner resources and develop new skills.
Therapy is about addressing today's troubles to create a better life now, and it is about getting to know your underlying patterns so that you choose differently in the future. Difficulties and problems are inherent in the human experience---not a sign of mental illness---and a therapist can put them in a bigger context to help you grow from them.
I have found methods that connect you to your deeper self are more effective than those that merely rehash history or remain on a surface level. That is why I combine integrative talk therapy with other holistic and alternative approaches to help you make positive changes. These can include relaxation training, guided imagery, clinical hypnosis, meditation, stress management, EMDR, and techniques to promote mind/body health. I also teach cognitive behavioral techniques, which help people to recognize and change harmful thought patterns. I help people build self-knowledge and learn self-regulation.
I help all ages throughout the lifespan, as each developmental level provides challenges and opportunities for change. I treat children and adults with such challenges as anxiety, depression, relationship problems, illness, and school and work difficulties. I help parents and children learn how to calm down so that they behave and relate better.
I provide a safe context for you to explore your experiences and share your concerns with a professional who is nonjudgmental and dedicated to understanding you and meeting your goals. I believe that everyone possesses an inherent capacity for healing and self-realization. Different kinds of life stresses and hurtful experiences can sometimes cloud these sources of knowledge. By working in a therapeutic relationship, it is possible to gain greater access to these inner strengths. I have found that the enduring qualities of Love, Forgiveness, Clarity, Acceptance, Responsibility, Peace, and Courage are part of the healing journey.
I have daytime, evening, and weekend hours. I will discuss sliding scale options when necessary.
